Fairmont Area Schools
For many years, Fairmont Area Schools has taken a proactive approach to planning facility investments that support students and reflect community priorities. Over the past two decades, residents approved important improvements, including a PK–2 addition at Five Lakes Elementary School in 2010 and an expansion at the junior/senior high school in 2021 to enhance Career and Technical Education and vocational programming.
In November 2025, residents voted on a $21.7 million building bond referendum that proposed facility and educational improvements, including a fine arts learning center addition, a new secured entrance and office area, classroom window additions, underfloor sewer pipe replacement, and other improvements at the junior/senior high school, as well as elevator replacement and building upgrades at the elementary school, which was rejected by voters.
Following the election, the school board has been intentional about listening to community feedback and exploring additional options. While the referendum did not pass, the district’s facility and educational space needs remain and will continue to be addressed through thoughtful planning and community engagement. The school board is considering all options to meet these needs.
